Like taking that first Surfside dip of the season, June is the month that officially marks summer on ACK. There are tourists and locals bustling around the cobblestones, the sun has actually shone for more than a single afternoon, and the sound of early morning landscapers is a sure sign that the season is upon us! Not only is the blACKbook team ready for beach weather and later sunsets, but we’ve also been hard at work making sure you’ve got the inside scoop on the new hotspots and can’t miss events and festivals of 2018! While the Grey Lady may cool us down for a week or two by making its inevitable Juneuary appearance, we’ve got the top 25 things to keep your social life HOT right through the next 30 days and beyond!

It is a known fact that Nantucket is THE place to be in the summer, and we all know you can’t step foot in a well-known locale without your outfit being on point. This is where one of the island’s longest standing retail HOT spots comes into play. Murray’s Toggery Shop has the ultimate in menswear this season, with brands like M Crest, Ledbury, and Bonobos… just to name a few. From the classic khaki to Nantucket Red Collection, Murray’s is THE spot to find the new summer men’s uniform, and the helpful staff that know the inventory like the back of their hand can help you create the perfect pairing of solid shorts to patterned shirt. Seriously, it’s not a romp around town without stopping by this Main Street staple. And when it comes to shirts, M Crest has got you covered with funky patterns to give any outfit some fun flare, and trust us… this isn’t your Dad’s hawaiian shirt – this is next level!
Speaking of staples, the ladies at The Lovely over on Washington Street know exactly what needs to be in your suitcase this season. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again… classic cashmere is a MUST for every woman’s wardrobe, linen blazers are the new jean jacket this season, and we like our denim with a twist (like their amazing frayed skinny jeans from Frame) that will give you everything you need to go from day to night in no time. June can be a tricky month to dress for on Nantucket, but you know what they say about New England – if you don’t like the weather, just wait five minutes… with the team over at The Lovely stocking stellar items all season long, you won’t need to worry about mother nature. You’ll be stocked up with staples that can take you from blanket to beach weather in the beep of a fog horn, and keep you looking HOT even when Juneuary hits!

This island favorite is bringing the HEAT for 2018 — just try their new spicy gin infusion, AKA Pink Slipper, if you don’t believe us. Hailing from Minnesota, and creating festive libations at scenes like the Parlour Bar and Young Joni, Lucas is a true game changer. This summer, Go Figure is coming in HOT with a brand new name and look! Meet Forme, the French word for “form”, which highlights the studio’s emphasis on proper alignment… and with a team as dedicated to the art of technique, it’s perfect timing now since the passion is shown in the name. In addition to rebrand, the team has developed custom mats designed to support the spine and help with finding that perfect alignment. This is just one of their newest props hitting the marketplace in 2018, alongside custom retail made just for them for both the studio and on the beach. Speaking of the beach, the Barre Bus is bACK at it on June 29th at Nobadeer with a brand new 45-minute class, so you can get your Vitamin Sea with your Vitamin D! Take Note! This is the time of year when we can really start looking forward to live music at the island’s favorite venue – the forever infamous Chicken Box, and the lineup this year is truly something special. Stepping on the stage on June 26th & 27th is The Brevet, and in the words of Packy himself, “there are just some moments in life that could use an extravagant soundtrack to make it feel complete. The Brevet are here to help you do just that.” This Southern California band is a new one for the BOX, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome them to the stage… Take a listen to the video above and get excited for our must see show of JUNE!

Something we love about this island is the ability to celebrate anything and everything. From Film Fest to Yoga Fest, there’s always something happening on the Grey Lady, and the Nantucket Book Festival is no exception. If there’s one thing we love in New England, it’s clam chowdah. So much so, in fact, that there’s a competition in USA TODAY brewing for Massachusetts’ Best, and we’ve got the winner for you – Brian Cullen ofThe Raw Bar Yoho takes the traditional Nantucket recipe he uses to the next level by being the only competitor to rake his own clams, shuck them on the spot, and cook up this delicious stew ON the beach. Not to mention, he’s the only Nantucket chowder on the list, so a vote for him is actually a vote for Nantucket, and in a world of well-known restaurants, we believe this talented chef deserves the win! Toss a vote his way, (FYI, you can vote once a day from now until June 26th!) and then go see him at Cisco Brewery to enjoy the product all season long!
