A new chapter for Theatre Workshop of Nantucket began in 2008 when internationally known stage and screen actor John Shea signed on as artistic director and Gabrielle Gould was appointed executive director. Over the last five years, John, Gabrielle, and TWN’s revamped Board of Directors greatly expanded fundraising and marketing efforts and secured long-term leases for both Bennett Hall and Centre Stage, facilitating long-term infrastructure improvements. As a result, ticket sales improved dramatically. TWN’s profile on the island grew, leading to artistic collaborations like the annual presentation of Moby Dick Rehearsed with the Nantucket Historical Society in the Great Hall of the Whaling Museum starring John Shea. A healthier bottom line, thanks to a newly energized group of TWN producers, yielded further tangible benefits for Nantucket’s performing arts community. All adult actors, designers, and staff are now paid. During the summer season, TWN hires and houses professional actors from around the world to work alongside our resident company. TWN produces musicals and large-cast productions in Bennett Hall and uses our intimate black box space, Centre Stage, for comedies and dramas. Dynamic productions grounded in teamwork and meticulous preparation define a new era for Theatre Workshop as we embark on the 2014 season.
