As my friend Angela so wisely put it… “last year on Nantucket felt like a revolution while this year is more of an evolution.” And while 2017 brought on a huge changing of the guard, this season is shaping up to be more about shifting. From real estate to retail to some new spots for spa’ing and sipping and shopping… we’ve got you covered with the inside scoop on all the HOT new happenings in your happy place!  It may not seem like it here in New England, but summer is right around the corner so without further adieu, the 2018 HOT LIST.

Summer is moving in and LEMON PRESS is also on the move! Taking over the former Arno’s space at 41 Main Street, Lemon Press is transforming the bar and restaurant into a healthy eaters haven with all of our favorite take-out staples, plus some extra options for dining in. While the concept will remain the same, customers can slow down and enjoy their meal on-site with both high-top cafe tables, and lower banquettes for a more loungey vibe. The existing bar will be used for full wait service, featuring specialty lattes and barista beverages, as well as smoothies, juices, and house-made mixers. As always, the focus will be on plant-based foods with strong mediterranean flavors. Venture away from the wharf this summer and grab some light evening bites at the new location! And if you’re out here for the full season, Lemon Press is actively searching for members of the team – shoot an email over to them at for inquiries! photo by Zofia Co.

HOT 02564 NEWS

When first hearing about the beloved Sconset Market changing hands, it sounded like it could be the end of an era. However, luckily for us 02564 lovers, it’s looking more like the continuation of an island institution! Rolf and Cindy Nelson have been working alongside the Sconset Market since they arrived in 1983! And with their restaurant the Sconset Cafe now being passed along to their Sous Chef Alex Ulgenalp,  Rolf and Cindy will continue their retail offerings with the Sconset Bookstore and now fully taking over the Sconset Market. (NOTE: they are also the talented team behind the market’s delicious baked goods for the past twenty years! That sconset cookie anyone?!)  With a fresh coat of paint, and some new product offerings thanks to the discerning eye of Cindy, the Sconset Market will be bACK for another delicious season starting Thursday, May 24th. Rolf, Cindy and their team will be ready to serve up our favorite go-to’s with some new items sprinkled in all the way through mid-September. When making your Sconset plans, ride the Wave to this quaint corner of Nantucket, and grab yourself a snack at the Market before making the journey back to town!

From the moment this Cisco Brewers IPA was crafted, the GRIPAH has been a favorite among brewery visitors…  and it is now being bottled by popular demand! The two year wait for a packaged version of this brew is over, and we encourage everyone to take full advantage. Not an IPA lover? Never say never. Speaking of Cisco, Nantucket’s trashiest fashion show is bACK at Cisco Brewers and we got a bit on the bACK story of why this event has got to be on your July radar. Jay Harman, co-owner of Cisco Brewers says,  “Kona hosts a Trash Fashion show as part of their annual Island Brewers Festival. As a strong partner to Kona, the most western brewery in the US, Cisco felt it could make a difference by talking trash on Nantucket, as the most eastern brewery in the US,” and thus the Annual Trashion Show was born. Cisco Brewers and Nantucket blACKbook are excited to bring it bACK for year number four!

Join us on July 10th to watch both local and celebrity models strut their recycled outfits with professional hair and makeup (big thank you to RJ Miller and Darya salons for the donated services) on the Americana Cisco themed Catwalk! Complete with jams from the Dueling DJ’s and Uncle Ricky bACK as the resident Trashion Show Emcee, the libations flowing all day long and this is sure to be one of the most fun days of the summer! Tickets for this event cost $50 and include FRONT ROW seats to the event, a reusable water bottle from lead sponsor Newell, a t-shirt, OCEARCH swag, stickers from Cisco and Happy Place, and more…not to mention the satisfaction of keeping our Happy Place free of debris! Get ‘em while they’re hot, people… Tickets go on sale next month!

Get your reusable mugs ready, ROASTD opens their doors for their first full season next month! Stop by for the favorites you found this fall, or give something new a try – from collagen infused coffee and tea drinks to vegan bath and body products, there is something for every level of wellness and caffeine enthusiast! After a devastating fire knocked out one of the favorite watering holes of both locals and visitors alike, we are excited to announce that Miacomet Golf Course has plans for the new building, with ground plans being broken this upcoming fall! But fall is so far away, right? Luckily for us, the team over at Miacomet has decided to rent a temporary building for the summer 2018 season, and will be serving libations and a light bar/lunch menu from 7am to 7pm daily! Hoping to utilize the existing porch and patio, customers will still be able to sip on some of their golf course favorites while enjoying views of the 18th green. While the permanent building might not be done until sometime in the fall of 2019, we surely won’t be deprived of this hidden gem this season… phew!

Nantucket is home to some of the best festivals on the East Coast, and the Nantucket Book Festival is no different! Going strong since 2012, the Book Fest brings established authors to the island each year to celebrate the craft of writing – something that blACKbook is constantly working on! This year, Louise Penny, one of the most popular and adored mystery authors in the world, is one of the headliners for the event, and her talks at the festival are sure to be packed to the rafters! This is a speaker you won’t want to miss. Book Fest 2018 takes place June 15 – 17 this year, and tickets go on sale in April!
