Did you know… Nantucket is super dog friendly? Don’t let your pups stay at home when they can be exploring the fantastic island of ACK! So Miss blACKbook turned to summer visitor Amanda Carlo to get a peek into what it’s like to pACK up your pooch and come to your happy place! Here is part three of three!

There are few greater memories than frolicking on a warm beach or grabbing a favorite meal with your canine companion. In Part Three of our series, we have compiled a list of our favorite spots to chow down and run around on ACK with your pet.

WONDERFUL WALKS FOR YOUR DOG:

Looking to burn off some energy or relax in the sand? Here are a few fun trails and beaches for you to enjoy with your pooch:

The Altar Rock path is a quick and easy jaunt for dogs of all kinds. Altar Rock Road is located off Quaise Road and is actually a dirt road, so it’s important to leash your pet to avoid any oncoming cars (although they are few and far between). This is a popular location with walkers, runners, bikers and fellow dog walkers, so if you’re looking for a social environment, this is the place for you. You will follow the path up to the eerie-looking signal beacon, and head left to one of the highest points on the island. Here you’ll be able to get a panoramic view of ACK in all of its glory!

Another favorite pet-friendly excursion is a trip to 40th Pole Beach (off Eel Point Road), but you’ll need an over sand vehicle and beach permit to get onto the actual beach.
We love to bring our dogs here because of the solitude, gentle waves and expansive beach. Sydney, our older goldendoodle, even learned to boogie board here!

DINING + DRINKING WITH YOUR DOG!

Feeling hungry after all that action? Stop by the Jetties Beach Bar & Restaurant, where your dog is more than welcome to dine with you in one of the many casual outdoor seating areas. You can enjoy a delicious lobster thin-crust pizza or partake in the famous “Buck-a-Shuck” while your pup basks in the sun.

A couple additional pet-friendly dining options include Madaket Millie’s… Our dogs love to lay under the picnic tables while we inhale quesadillas!

Queequeg’s outdoor tables are ideal for cocktails and people-watching while your pup can hang on the sidewalk!

The downtown staple “Rose & Crown” offers al fresco dining where you can sit and sip and snACK on some delicious pub fare as your pup relaxes and people watches on South Water Street!

Perhaps you’d rather enjoy your calories in liquid form? Check out Cisco Brewers with your four legged friend in tow.
Live music, a raw bar, outdoor games, plus a brewery, a winery and a distillery all in one location make this spot pretty close to heaven.

Our little dog, Spree, fancies herself a Bloody Mary connoisseur and highly recommends the peppercorn, horseradish and garlic-infused Triple 8 Vodka Bloody Mary. We usually have to carry her out of there. (Disclaimer: I’m kidding. Our pets do not drink alcohol as it is dangerous to their health and dignity.)

If you need a little pick-me-up after an afternoon of libations, drop by Handlebar Café. You can grab some caffeine for yourself, while your furry friend rehydrates at the astoundingly adorable Bark Bar. It’s charming and functional – the best combination!

We hope this guide encourages you to plan your next trip to Nantucket with your pet by your side. I have always loved and lived by the quote: “To the world you are one person. But to your dog, you are the world.” As such, you owe it to your unconditional best friend to experience Nantucket, as it is truly magical and one-of-a-kind.
