Here's to you, Ruth. ❤️ Dear Mom, The last morning that we woke up together was April 8th, 2014. You had always told us that when life was not normal to try and do normal things. I had no idea what that sentence meant… because I didn’t even digest how completely unnatural our life was during the time while you were dying. On this morning, you were in your bedroom, in your favorite spot where you would enjoy the crossword puzzle and a 30 minute nap every day. It was 11:04AM and you were just about to take another nap. This one for way longer than a half hour. I was glad I was sitting next to you with my sisters and that you waited until Steve got back from the dump to take your last breath. The biggest thing that seemed completely abnormal on that oh-so-grey and unnatural day was how the sun came out during your final moment. A beam of light passed right through the room as you passed over. I knew it was a sign from something higher. It made me believe in something. But when that grey came back in… that was all I could focus on. Not the light… but the darkness. I heard that death is difficult at best. I miss you. I miss writing to you. So here are seven letters from the same day on different years.   • Dear Grey Lady ✨ Thank you for this random warm spring-like afternoon that popped up out of nowhere like an early daffy at the Rotary. ✨ Thank you for these legendary sunsets in Madaket and for those cotton candy colored skies in Sconset. ✨Thank you for the crowds and influx of tourism during the summer ... and thank you for letting us refuel our tanks in the winter so we can be at our best for the season. ✨Thank you for creating so many open spaces to savor your beauty... from three miles of blissful walking at Sanford Farm to the miles of Serengeti while driving 45PMH down Milestone. ✨ Thank you for the delicious Pocomo oysters that flourish in your Atlantic ... and thank you for the juicy tomatoes that sprout in your fields at Bartletts. ✨ Thank you for the wide bike paths that lead out to the Beach and the Brewery ... and thank you for the cobblestones that slow down our minds and our motors on Main Street. ✨ Thank you for being the beacons of light that shine from Great Point to Sankaty to Brant Point. ✨ Thank you for the April daffodils and the Julys filled with rose covered cottages and driveways full of larger than life hydrangeas. ✨ Thank you for the fog that keeps us on island longer... and for the wind that makes us stay on your shores for an extra day or two. ✨ Thank you, Nantucket, for all the things that we sometimes forget to thank you for... for all that which makes you YOU. ✨ We Love You. ❤️ Wholeheartedly, Holly #nantucket
