Meet Justin Cerne, the Resident Artistic Theatre Director for Nantucket Theatre Workshop. Aside from the love for the stage (he’s got years of choreographing, writing, dance and direction experience) this new to Nantucket gent has traveled the globe and bACK to get inspired on how theatre works around the world.
“Some highlights of his direction and choreography credits include the choreography for Oscar Nominee Whit Stillman’s film, Damsels In Distress, (where the Sambola can be seen danced by Greta Gerwig and Adam Brody), directing and choreographing the iconic Oklahoma!, and working at The Yale School of Drama creating the musical staging for Bertolt Brecht’s Man=Man. He’s staged dancing forks and napkins in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, directed a giant man-eating plant inLittle Shop of Horrors and celebrating the roaring twenties in Thoroughly Modern Millie.”
Justin’s Motto is say yes to everything, you never know what direction it might lead.
And with that last yes, Justin pACKed up his French Bulldog (Henri) and moved from the Big Apple to the Grey Lady for the season! He’s already fallen in love with the pace of the island and describes Nantucket as a “feeling, not a thing.” From dinners out at LoLa 41 to shopping at currentVintage, enjoying the beach at Cisco and taking Henri for walks around town, Justin is feeling quite at home on the island. And he’s got a busy season ahead of him with Theatre Workshops fantastic season of Hay Fever opening this week, and old favorites like Oklahoma! and new hot plays like “Black Tie” coming to the stage!
Another cool thing about Justin? He launched a fresh idea for the design business in 2008 with “Sit By Justin” where old chairs get a funky and inspired second chance. Learn more by clicking here

HAY FEVER BUZZ: “The eccentric Blisses live in a world where reality slides easily into fiction. When they host a weekend at their country estate, their unsuspecting guests all become victims in the self-serving shenanigans of their hosts and everything goes blissfully awry in this sparkling and stylish comedy of manners.”
