It’s that time of year… when we are dreaming about summer, but are still definitely in winter. That being said, you know blACKbook has got you covered for what’s hot and happenin’ for the upcoming season! So with 2017 having lots of that new, newand with just 12 weeks until Wine Festival Weekend… here is the premier HOT LIST with the 15 for 2017!


5 Amelia Drive (Formerly Cinco’s & Fog Island Grill)



Island Natives Sabrina Dawson and Gaven Norton wanted to create a dining scene for the locals, by the locals. And with Sabrina’s restaurant background (her parents are the success behind Fog Island Cafe) and Gaven’s island roots (he started ACK SURF school) these two are taking their love for Nantucket and creating a fresh island restaurant with Keepers. They say, “Keepers provides their guests with the creative freedom to design their own dining experience. The cuisine is innovative and not defined by a certain region or style. Instead it is a fun collaboration of our favorite dishes that we love to cook and are excited to share.” Their Chef Doug Ferrell (who went to the Culinary Institute of America and has been working in the kitchen on Nantucket for years) will feature loads of shared plates, sides and creative apps and will have a beer and wine list. The restaurant, which has  60 seats, will also offer a seasonal patio (with 30+ more seats!) to savor outdoor dining with family and friends.  In this space, you’ll find tons of young and fresh energy and lots of local flair, including the work of many island photographers showcased around the wood and brick walls. With an approachable price point and a casual ambiance, Keepers is sure to add some great flair and flavor to mid island.



18 Broad Street (Formerly Meursault)


Look out Broad Street…  Afterhouse is coming in hot! This new island dining concept (and the sister restaurant to Galley Beach) will be Nantucket’s raw and wine bar and a true Nantucket seafood bistro. The focus will be on chilled shellfish, raw fish preparations, caviars and tinned seafood. For those looking for menu items beyond seafood, there will be local vegetarian offerings and charcuterie selections. The space will offer draft and in bottle as well as a curated wine list where every bottle will also be offered by the glass and will serve from 2:30PM to 12:30AM daily. And what’s in the name? “The Afterhouse is a structure on the deck of a whaling ship where the common sailors would go to get relief from the elements. Located next to the Galley, the After House was a communal room where whale men would share stories, enjoy a meal, have a grog, or just relax away from their duties on board.” While the location is a bit down the road from Galley Beach, how cool is it that the term “Afterhouse” means “next to the Galley”?!  Great play on words, guys!


1 Main Street (Formerly The Club Car)



There is some serious buzz going on with the changing of the guard at The Club Car. This island institution will be reinvigorated by three beloved Nantucket restauranteurs whose names and faces you will definitely recognize. (The general manager/partner is Tanya McDonough, formerly of Straight Wharf and Ventuno, the director of operations/partner is the seasoned hospitality entrepreneur Ty Costa, and the executive chef/partner is Mayumi Hattori, formerly of Straight Wharf) They say… “The life center of the restaurant is togetherness. We convey a carefree, come-as-you-are culture, balanced with a level of sophistication, drawing locals and visitors alike.” The Club Car will showcase a California cuisine that highlights a coastal Mediterranean influence with a bar menu featuring classic cocktails with a twist. Chef Mayumi says “I want food that not only tastes good, but makes me feel good. My approach is to simplify. I reduce dishes down to the purest ingredients so that the natural nourishment and flavors burst through.” The Club Car will be serving up dinner and late night snacks nightly, as well as lunch and weekend brunch during the summer season. While the original name remains the same, the interior of The Club Car is undergoing a facelift. But one thing that will stay put is the piano… get ready for more sipping and singing this summer!



4 Bathing Beach Road (Formerly The Jetties)

Beach time, brunch time, and more time with your feet in the sand? That’s right! The new Sandbar at the Jetties will be creating a longer season down on 4 Bathing Beach Road. Staying open from Mid May until Columbus Day is just one of the happy changes you’ll see at this new restaurant. Sandbar at the Jetties will be run by island restauranteurs (and two long standing Nantucket bartenders) Nick Nassington and George Kelly (formerly of CRU and the Nautilus, respectively.) These guys will be focusing on keeping the family friendly vibe of the Jetties while adding in a signature weekend brunch and opening up earlier at 9AM. The cuisine will be New England beach fare with a raw bar and a casual ambiance and showcasing live music daily. They’ll be keeping the store next to the restaurant (where you can grab beach essentials on your way to the ocean) and it will also feature some fresh apparel, swag and designs with the new Sandbar lifestyle brand. Take Note… they’ll also be offering family style clambakes!


15 South Water Street (Formerly The Atlantic Cafe)

Seafood, seafood and more fresh seafood… That’s what The Charlie Noble will be offering on South Water Street this summer! From crab legs to steamers, stuffies to a local fish, this new restaurant will be highly pescatarian driven with a carnivore twist adding in a legit burger bar to the menu! The Charlie Noble will be owned and operated by island restauranteurs Denise Corson and Fred Bisaillon who also own B-ACK Yard BBQ. This new spot will be family friendly and a great option for those looking for a bite whether they be a party of two or twenty. They will serve lunch and dinner daily with a Sunday Brunch. It’s cool to see that the building has some history with the new owners, too! Denise worked at the Atlantic Cafe in the early 2000’s and Chef Fred has had his eye on the space since 2008. Creating a restaurant for locals and tourists alike, The Charlie Noble will be a place for everyone to enjoy a libation (they’ll have lots of English and Irish craft beers as well as an expansive tequila selection) and a  great downtown addition with the casual seafood concept! BONUS: They’ll be taking the vintage Toby’s shuffleboard table out of retirement and it will live in the back of The Charlie Noble!



2 Chins Way (Formerly Grey Lady)

Island Kitchen, celebrating its fifth year on island, is about to double… and we are doubling with excitement with what owner Patrick Ridge is bringing to us this year. Ridge and his partners purchased the building adjacent to IK (formerly Grey Lady) and is creating a plethora of new sweet options for us on ACK… He is most excited about the patio expansions which will offer 50+ new seats and an outdoor bar! Working closely alongside island builders Josiah and John Newman (which Ridge described as a “privilege” to work with this team) there will now be 78 outdoor seats, a larger parking situation and a outdoor space that will connect Island Kitchen to the building next door with mahogany banquets, beautiful landscaping and a pergola. This will be an incredible space where families and friends can come in and enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner! BONUS: Ridge is also adding in an ice cream window with 20+ flavors of homemade ice-cream AND a counter where you can get the delicious yeast raised donuts. Let’s just say, we’re going to be spending some serious time (and calories) in this space.



45 Surfside Road

Surfside Road just got a little more sweet (and savory!) with the addition of the new cafe and bakery, 45 Surfside! Chef/Owner Rebecca Moesinger has opened up a beautiful space, perfect for grabbing a great coffee, a light breakfast or a delicious lunch! With 19 parking spaces and a space that can seat up to 30 people, 45 Surfside is both convenient for driving and for dining. Chef Moesinger puts a focus on what’s fresh and what’s sparking her fancy when it comes to daily special and offerings. She and her lovely team opened to the Nantucket public in late December and by summer season, they will be serving breakfast, lunch and a light dinner in the cafe. TAKE NOTE: for those looking for homemade cakes for the variety of occasions, 45 Surfside specializes in creating innovative and decadent cakes … from Limon Citron Tortes to Tiramisu to Strawberry Grand Marnier! (And trust us, we had a slice of one of their cakes at a party this weekend and it was divine!)

Get ready to think (and drink!) PINK with THE BLUSH BASH! This new island event will be a celebration of the the pink drink at Bartlett’s Farm to benefit the Brant Point Shellfish Hatchery.  Presented in partnership with Château d’Esclan, the afternoon event will showcase live bands, a raw bar by Island Favorite 167 Raw, Drink Pink Tables curated by BRIX at 1 Windy Way and other local wine shops and more! (We’re loving the creativity of this bash including a “Not Kosher” tent featuring Hogwash and Clambake roses!) Now here’s a new summer dinner option! Put on your ‘Ritz‘ and escape with a pal to The Nantucket Hotel for an evening of elegant dining, witty conversation, and dancing to live stylish music recalling the romance of an earlier time with the new NANTUCKET SUPPER CLUB. This weekly event (held on Thursday evenings from July 6th to August 24th) will showcase a deliciously curated dinner with a dancing scene in the ballroom at The Nantucket Hotel. Tickets will be $120 and we’ll give you the link when they launch the site!



21 Old South Road

We’re in the market for more new off Old South Road… and the brand new Nantucket Meat & Fish Market is a family owned and operated market offering fresh ingredients in a friendly, quality driven setting.  Their cafe will offer an array of breakfast items, sandwiches, sushi, coffee and espresso while the market offers everything needed to provision a meal at home, on the beach or boat.  Local seafood, prime steaks, marinated meats, produce, and prepared foods are some of the highlights of what will be offered. Personally, we love the fact that there will be a new place to get freshly baked bagels to go in the morning!



2 Harbor Square

We got a little bit of the Rocky Mountains on its way to the Grey Lady! Taking over the space which formerly belonged to Vineyard Vines, Perch is a women’s contemporary store that curates coveted brands. Their Nantucket location (yes, these Colorado babes have stores in both Vail and Denver) will be showcasing everyday and resort wear favorites from Veronica Beard, See by Chloe, Derek Lam 10 Crosby, Rag & Bone and M Missoni. The Perch Gals say… “Whether you are going from beach to dinner, attending a fabulous Nantucket wedding or just wanting to stock up on the latest fashions, Perch Nantucket will bring you a beautifully edited selection of pieces you can enjoy for years!”


13. trACK Nantucket

22 Liberty Drive ~ Boston Seaport


Everything you love about LoLa 41 … just doubled in the city of Boston with a million dollar view overlooking the waterfront! The new LoLa 42 will have all the LoLa 41 favorites with a slight twist for inspiration of cuisine that falls along the 42nd parallel. With over 100+ seats throughout the restaurant (which includes a 40+ seat patio!) here you’ll find a plethora of dining options including a dining bar, sushi bar, high top tables, bistro dining, and even its own private dining room! Executive Chef Robert “Boz” Boslow will be creation the menu, and owner Marco Coehlo will be working his magic by conceptualizing the city LoLa scene with a lot of familiar faces crossing the sea to help open this new Boston hotspot.



345 King Street, Charleston 


Look at CHS… the hot ACK brand concept pop-up (which will be bACK on island this May!) is now taking the south by storm! The Skinny Dip girls say… “The Skinny Dip: Charleston Edition will house a well-­curated mix of men’s, women’s and lifestyle brands, with a focus on introducing fresh and new designers from around the country, as well as providing a space for local Charleston designers and artists to showcase their products. The space will have a large outdoor patio, as well as a coffee bar, also serving up wine and beer. An ongoing events calendar makes The Skinny Dip not just an inspiring place to shop but also a destination to connect.”
