Now this is a total game changer, get to and from your Happy Place in the shoulder season with ease thanks to Cape Air which is now serving JFK. Starting October 23rd, a daily round-trip flight will take place from the Big Apple to Nantucket and also Hyannis! This service will run through mid-May of 2019 so getting to Stroll, Daffy and Wine Festival will be a breeze. A foodie’s paradise…during both the Spring and Fall, the bi-annual Nantucket Restaurant Week offers locals and visitors alike the option of trying some new dining spots or re-visiting old favorites. Once the Whaling capital of the world, Nantucket’s heritage has always been tied to the sea. On September 29th at Children’s Beach, the island’s seafaring heritage is the focus of the Maritime Festival, where the coastal community comes together for boat races, harpoon throwing, line tossing, sea shanties, harbor cruises, and other seaside celebrations for people of all ages! ALSO, there will be a free entry day on October 8th at the Shipwreck and Lifesaving Museum followed by their Cardboard Boat Race on October 24th.
FUN RUN FOR RECOVERY
September is National Recovery Month, and if you’re looking to run, walk or volunteer for an amazing cause, Nantucket Rising is collaborating with Bartlett’s Farm to host a 5K Fun Run for Recovery. Benefiting Addiction Solutions of Nantucket, this event will take place on September 30th at 9am and aims to increase awareness of mental health and substance use disorders and to celebrate the power and joy of recovery! Not on island? No problem…you can still register and run a 5K distance wherever you may be in the world.

DEETS ABOUT THIS YEAR’S CRANBERRY FESTIVAL
A BERRY fun time for the whole fam to be had– the 15th Annual Cranberry Festival will be taking place October 6th from 11am-4pm. With cranberry harvesting, live music, hayrides, a petting zoo, antique tractor displays, and even a berry bouncing machine. Food vendors include B-ACK Yard BBQ, Sweet Inspirations (be sure to stock up on chocolate covered cranberries), Wicked Island Bakery, ACK Fresh, Bartlett’s Farm, and Catering by Laura. Admission is free with $20 parking per vehicle, so be sure to head out to 220 Milestone Road and soak up what is sure to be a glorious fall day. PS. Did you know that by the end of 2018, the Nantucket Conservation Foundation expects to be the largest certified organic cranberry grower in the United States?

NANTUCKET SHORTS FESTIVAL IS A MUST!
The popcorn will be flowing on October 6th for the Nantucket Shorts Festival, an event that showcases film work from 2 to 10 minutes in length by both novice and experienced filmmakers. Films selected by the committee will be shown on the big screen at the Dreamland Theater as well as on NCTV Channel 18 and are all either inspired by or filmed right here on Nantucket!
MAY THE COURSE BE WITH YOU
Tie up your running shoes and get ready for a scenic route that will have you forgetting you’re running 13.1 miles. The 8th Annual Nantucket Half Marathon will be taking place on Sunday October 7th at 8am! Race registration will cost $80 after September 15th costs $75 until September 15th. BONUS: They will also be hosting a FREE 1/2 mile Kid’s Fun Run for ages 5 – 12 and all participants will receive a finisher’s medal. Registration for the kid’s run will open at 7 am and a parent or guardian must be present to sign a waiver for the race which will begin at 8:45 am.

Keep your stretchy pants out after Restaurant Week, from October 12-14th Sustainable Nantucket will be hosting this year’s NantucketGrown Food Festival. This unique food and health focused offering collaborates with local farmers, chefs, fishermen, brewers, beekeepers and artisanal food producers to enjoy the flavors of the island while educating attendees about nutritious, sustainable agriculture.
ANOTHER FESTIVAL TO FALL FOR
Celebrate the new season at Bartlett’s Farm Garden Center. On October 21st from 11am – 2pm there will be hay rides, a pumpkin carving contest, great food, games, a goat for petting, beer tasting, face painting, and more. This event is free for the whole family!
PARADE DOWN BOO-TIFUL MAIN STREET
While we’re still fearful of the guy walking around on stilts spooking patrons last year, the annual Halloween Parade and Pageant on Main Street is an awesome opportunity for the island community to strut their stuff in a variety of classic and creative costumes. Starting in the early evening on October 31st, bring the whole family, including your furry friends, to check out the competition and get a head start on candy collecting!

Get in the holiday spirit at Nantucket Historical Association’s 20th Annual Festival of Wreaths! A wonderful tradition for designers and spectators alike, this event kicks off the holiday season with beautifully crafted traditional and unconventional wreaths on display put together by local businesses, non-profits, schools, and organizations. Visitors are invited to bid on their favorite pieces in a silent auction which helps benefit the NHA’s year-round outreach efforts. The preview party will take place on Tuesday November 20th from 5:30-7:30pm then the exhibit will be open November 21st, 23rd and 24th from 10am-5pm (closed on Thanksgiving) and on November 25th from 10am-2pm. Make sure you have your warmest gear and blankets in tow, maybe even a hot toddy, for this year’s 18th Annual Thanksgiving Cold Turkey Plunge happening on November 22nd. This fundraiser benefiting the Weezie Library for Children gathers brave plungers, business supporters and bystanders and has raised more than $100,000 in recent years. Funds raised make it possible for the Atheneum to host over 500 free programs and services for Weezie patrons making this a fun yet frigid fundraiser!

On Friday November 23rd, grab a cup of hot chocolate and get your vocals warmed up for some holiday cheer to celebrate the Chamber’s Annual Tree Lighting and Community Caroling. Count down with the Town Crier as the crowd marvels at magical Main Street being lit by over 100 trees with carols led by the local youth choir, Accidentals & Naturals to kick off Nantucket Noel. This is the event to help jump start your holiday season.
