One of the best parts about the spring on Nantucket is watching the offseason chatter come to life. All winter we hear tidbits of information on what’s gone, what’s new and what’s to come… but it isn’t really until April when we get to watch everything unfold. Here’s a taste at what juicy topics we’ve been listening to all winter…
the boys get “Nauti”… Restaurant banter is always a hot topic on ACK… and there are three gents who are super buzzworthy. (Liam Mackey, Clinton Terry and Stephen Bowler to be exACKt) The Nautilus, the new restaurant on 12 Cambridge Street (formerly 12 Degrees East) is set to open the week before Wine Fest. Chef MacKey, (former chef de cuisine the Pearl) gave their @ACKnauti social media followers a peek at a sample menu… and with a new look to the bar and a small space? We’re betting this place will be pACKed as soon as the door opens next month.
B&B’s give us a buzz… last year, the Union Street Inn got a makeover, 76 Main opened its doors, and The Centerboard got a sister Inn with The Regatta. The trends show that when it comes to hot places to stay, visitors are loving the upscale amenities while keeping the boutique charm… This year, a few revamped Inns are popping up, including the new B&B at the former Nesbitt Inn location, which has been getting a facelift all winter into in the spring.
Watch your head…and say cheese. The former location of the clothing store “Cordillera Imports” on 18 Broad Street has been transformed into a new wine and cheese cafe from “Dupree & Company” owner Ethan Dupree. The store “Meursault” is set to open around next month (potentially around Wine Fest) and will hopefully fill the void left when Fahey and Fromagerie closed its doors years back.
Grey’s on Grey Lady. Looking around the rock and seeing a movie star? yep, you’re not dreaming… that’s McSteamy.. or Eric Dane as he is formally known. The 41 year old hunk is starring in the latest thriller from Nantucket resident and director John Shea called… yep. “Grey Lady” — blACKbook founder Holly Finigan say down with Eric at his island home to get the inside scoop on what he’s been up to and what he’s loving about ACK. (So far, it’s Cisco Brewers Indie Pale Ale and Pi Pizzeria!) He’ll be shooting on the island for the next five weeks so keep your eyes peeled for this Grey’s heartthrob. BONUS: he’s a really really nice and normal and down to earth guy. More to come from our full blACKbook post later next week.
JC take three: ACKtion! 2011 introduced us to The Brick Bistro. Then 2012 brought The Essex Room… and next month, the Jared Coffin House gets its third restaurant in four years with “Nantucket Prime” a steak and seafood house coming to the island from off island restaurateur Matthew Sullivan. (known for Blue on Highland in Needham)… what we think? That patio has always been a sweet spot for al fresco lunch and people watching. Best of luck to the new guys on the block.
Has Tom Nevers ever had so much buzz? Look out T-Nevs, there’s some serious music coming your way! The first ever Nantucket Music Festival is set for August 2nd & 3rd. With headliners like Bruce Hornsby and Donavon Frankenreiter, as well as a tributes to local bands like Coq Au Vin to open up, this is sure to be the talk of July. Word on the the street is there are still a few more big names to be announced as the festival date gets closer…
