NEWSFLASH! With a high on Turkey Day of but 24 degrees on Nantucket, it’s going to be really, really cold… but reading our Holiday Hot List will keep you warm and satisfied throughout the days ahead! THE DISH ON THANKSGIVING WEEKEND
Make sure you have your warmest gear and blankets in tow, maybe even a hot toddy, for this year’s 18th Annual Thanksgiving Cold Turkey Plunge which has been moved to **Friday November 23rd** due to the forecasted temperature paired with winds around 30mph. This fundraiser benefiting the Weezie Library for Children gathers brave plungers, business supporters and bystanders and has raised more than $100,000 in recent years. Funds raised make it possible for the Atheneum to host over 500 free programs and services for Weezie patrons making this a fun yet frigid fundraiser!
NHA Festival of Wreaths
A double whammy of events is going down at the Whaling Museum... first up to bat is the Festival of Wreaths — this FREE exhibit will be open November 21st, 23rd and 24th from 10am-5pm (closed on Thanksgiving) and on November 25th from 10am-2pm. Here, you’ll be able to admire and even bid on creative designs made by locals. Before you know it they will be switching over for the Festival of Trees preview party on Thursday, November 29th from 6-8pm. The exhibit will then be open to the public with admission fee from November 30th through December 31st (closed on Christmas), 10am-5pm daily! Bask in a variety of yuletide’s finest firs that will surely get you in the holiday spirit.
NHA House Tours
Walking in a winter wonderland… from Friday, November 23rd through December 31st, take an Nantucket Historical Association Tour of historic homes dolled up in their holiday best with NHA. Three properties, Hadwen House, Thomas Macy House and Greater Light will be designed and decorated by Donna Elle Design, David M. Handy Events, Susu Aylward, and Patty Kepenash and open from 11am-4pm. Entry is free for NHA Members, $5 for island residents, and $20 for non-residents.
Main Street Tree Lighting & Community Caroling
Grab a cup of hot chocolate and get your vocals warmed up for some holiday cheer to celebrate the Nantucket Chamber’s Annual Tree Lighting and Community Caroling on Friday, November 23rd. Count down with the Town Crier as the crowd marvels at magical Main Street being lit by over 100 trees with carols led by the local youth choir, Accidentals & Naturals to kick off Nantucket Noel. This is the event to help jump start your holiday season. PS. Nantucket Chamber’s Holiday Red Ticket Drawing will remain on December 24th at 3pm so be sure to shop local!

Also back in ACKtion for their 2nd Stroll, they will be offering dinner service Thursday at 5:30, brunch and dinner on both Friday and Saturday, with an extra special closing brunch on Sunday December 2nd with Rob and Teddy slinging festive cocktails and holiday sing alongs piano side.
Lola 41, Station 21 & Greydon House
A lunch break you won’t want to leave… Lola 41 has been serving up favorites during the daytime Monday-Saturday from 11:30am-2pm and your mouth will be watering looking at their Instagram with daily chirashi bowl, bento box, and soup & sandwich additions. Dinner daily at 5pm with all day service on the Saturday of Stroll. PS. It’s easier fighting off those Sunday scaries when sushi rolls are two for one. Their sister restaurant Station 21 will be open Thursday-Saturday for dinner during Stroll beginning at 5pm with extended hours opening at noon on December 1st. Around the corner, in addition to breakfast and lunch and the bar being open all day, Greydon House will be offering a special pre-fix holiday dinner menu on November 30th and December 1st.
Oh happy day! We still got two weeks to get our Ventuno fix for the 2018 season! You can get your primi’s morsi’s and secondi’s this Thanksgiving Weekend from Friday through Sunday for dinner. For Stroll, The ‘TUNES crew will have their doors open (with reservations strongly recommended) for lunch Friday-Sunday and for dinner Thursday-Sunday! Savor one last spirited evening on Sunday, December 2nd before they close until May 2019.
Reopening after a brief fall break on Friday, November 23rd, Dune will be serving dinner on Friday and Saturday. For Stroll weekend, they are adding lunch service on Friday and Saturday with waitlists for dinner reservations. The patio bar will be open all day on Saturday December 1st, with a special exhibit by photographer and fellow employee Bill Hoenk. A bonus Sunday dinner is available, then they will begin their Tuesday-Saturday December dinner schedule before their break from January until reopening on March 1st.
When it gets dark this early, one must savor the light. During Thanksgiving weekend, Proprietors will be open on Friday and Saturday for dinner with their Sunday brunch that has been an island favorite for the past few seasons rounding out the weekend. During Stroll they will be open Thursday-Sunday with all day service on Saturday and Sunday. December 1st they will be pouring samples of VOLAGE, a fresh Cabernet Franc sparkling Rosé. Closed Monday-Wednesday after Stroll, you’ll have a little more time to come in before their closing brunch on December 9th with specialty cocktail and food specials. A Holiday market will take place on December 10th from 4-8pm with open bar, Big Hug Dumplings and pieces by Nell Van Vorst & Clay Twombly. And if that wasn’t enough to look forward to, they will be reopening on Christmas Eve during the red ticket drawing so you can stay toasty by the bar as the ticket drawing is announced via phone!
One of the coziest bars on the island is always packed as soon as the 5:30 bell rings and their West Creek doors open. But did you know that one of the best parts of Pi Pizzeria is that they’re open for lunch Wednesday-Monday?? This sneaky spot is perfect for a glass of Chianti and a build your own delicious brick oven pizza or if you’re in a rush, call ahead and savor their chicken parm with a glass bottle of soda, which may just be our Italian happy meal.
FRESH is your one stop shop for all your thanksgiving & stroll sustenance needs…whether it be some liquor blanket action to keep warm or a delectable grilled cheese and house made soup combo they will be open Tuesday-Sunday of Stroll week from 10-8. Sunday December 2nd stop by and get your shop on…for their final day of the season they’re going out with a bang with $5 sandwiches and 15% off all liquor for a deli party like you’ve never seen before!
Stroll just wasn’t the same without CRU at last year, so this time around, they are bACK and on a mission to make Stroll 2018 their best one yet! Re-opening Thursday November 29th at 5pm, they will be dishing out the seafood and oyster favs you’ve been craving for dinner Thursday-Saturday and lunch Friday – Saturday. On Sunday the 2nd, get out your best snow bunny gear for their always epic closing brunches with an Aprés-Ski Themed BRUNCH with DJ Ryan Brown. BONUS: In addition to regular service, on Thursday they are combining forces with Domaine Faiveley for a fabulous 5 course wine dinner and for lunch on Friday Calvisius Caviar and Champagne Billecart-Salmon are teaming up for an intimate 4 course lunch. Brew Up Some Fun With Cisco
Not only will your Cisco Brewers family be open on Thanksgiving day from 12-5pm, but they also have a ton of epicness coming your way. The tent is up and fire pits are blazing with music every Wednesday-Sunday from now until January 1st! Keep an eye out for game nights (we hear a Rummikub night is happening Tuesday November 20th), charity benefits taking place on Mondays and Pints and Paints returning on Tuesdays beginning December 4th. While the weather may not be sunny and 75, the ultimate Happy Place is just as cheery this time of year.

One thing is for sure, it’s always cozy during weekend nights at the legendary Chicken Box. On November 23rd and 24th the Friday and Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend, local fan favorite Perfect Day will be gracing the stage with their presence and bringing you renditions of your favorite jams all night long. During Stroll weekend, get your country cover fix as Dalton and the Sheriffs make their way back to the island on November 30th and December 1st to kick some dust up.

Buy a permit, grab your waders, track down an inner tube and bushel basket and you’re well on your way to a great time scalloping with the fam. On Wednesdays-Sundays get out on the water and bring home the bacon….or in this case, bacon wrapped scallops.

Change things up and hone your skills in the kitchen by signing up for an experiential class at the Nantucket Culinary Center. Learn to bake a classic fruit tart on November 30th or join Chef Greg for a series of hands-on cooking classes including seasonal sheet pan dinners on December 5th, a bay scallop workshop on December 12th, and holiday sides on December 19th.

There’s a new downtown hotspot for finding your flow on the rock… Get yourself to The Graceline Institute on November 24th at 7pm with a unique class called as “Elevate Flow” — this will encompass a yoga class led by Caitlin Marcoux set to live mixed music from DJ Todd Richard with a Gratitude Meditation with Graceline owner Mickaela Grace to top it all off. A long week calls for unwinding from the stress with a Candlelight Restorative class at Dharma Yoga. With the help of props, poses are held for longer amounts of time to allow participants to truly relax and refresh. Taking place from 5:30-6:45pm on Fridays, this is a must in our blACKbook for keeping level headed, especially during the holidays. Join them on December 4th for their 8th annual Candlelight and Carols holiday fundraiser class that benefits the Inky Santa Toy Drive with healthy treats afterwards. If you’re seeking an extra dose of zen, Dharma will be hosting a Restorative Yoga Workshop on December 8th from 1-3 pm open to all levels. This extended class will allow for even deeper peacefulness. If you’re feeling adventurous, on December 15th from 1-3pm for $65 a person, give aerial yoga a try which uses silk hammocks as a prop to open the hips and lower back, stretch the connective tissue, increase flexibility, and help prevent injury. Searching for a silent space to meditate, relax or even catch some z’s? Nantucket Healing Arts has you covered with a drop-in lunch hour Silent Meditation for a $10 suggested donation. From 12:30-1:30pm on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays, Alexandra Catchpole is opening her doors to the community and even providing mats and blankets. On December 2nd from 2-4pm, they will be hosting a Winter Wellness Workshop where you can learn about and create your own Winter Glow Body Scrub, which is made from all natural ingredients including Fire Cider, a traditional folk remedy that supports your immune and respiratory system throughout the colder months. Enjoy the cooler weather while soaking up the fresh Nantucket air with Mother Nature and our buddy Peter Brace of Nantucket Walkabout. This is the island’s only year-round hiking service that offers natural history walks across the protected lands. Learn about how the island was geologically created during the last glacier, how the island got its unique collection of plants and wildlife, how and when Native Americans and European settlers impacted the island’s natural world, conservation efforts, and what the future may hold…transportation is provided to and from the locations, hikes are $50 for adults and $25 for children and vary from 1 to 4 ½ miles and last 1 – 3 hours. - Wicked Island Bakery is moving to the former Cowboys space. Take Note: they will operate at their current space until noon on Christmas Eve and plan to re-open in their new digs in Bayberry Court in mid-January with morning buns on deck.
- After wrapping up their 5th season on island, Follain recently announced they are closing their doors at 9A South Beach Street. As huge fans of their clean beauty shopping scene and we will miss the store and their team dearly.
