2017 is coming to a close… so in a very blACKbook fashion, we’re giving you our (first ever!) end of year superlatives! Come scroll with us down the cobblestone memory lane with our 2017 yearbook!
Andy Frasco & The U.N.
Yep, this band came in HOT in June… so fierce in fACKt that pACKy just had to bring Andy Frasco & The UN back for round two with a double header show in late August (with an acoustic show by Citizen Cope in between!) Catchy chords, crazy-whiskey-fueled lyrics and just the perfect amount of hyped up musical energy in between made this an immediate BOX favorite.
Slogan Of 2017
“There’s Always The Next Ferry”
Aside from being an immediate insta favorite quote… this print (found at new island boutique hotspot 28 Centre Pointe
) was the talk of the rock… so much so that it was made into a tee shirt as well! For all those friends who are rushing to catch the Hy-Line… this was the perfect gentle reminder! (And PS… for those off the rock, you can still order your framed print here
Island Kitchen Donuts + Ice Cream Shop
We’re not just saying this because we moved next door to this place… it’s because the Counter at IK was the talk of the island after its grand opening this July. Owner Patrick Ridge has a serious sweet tooth so when he decided to purchase the Grey Lady restaurant and connect his beloved Island Kitchen, he didn’t just want to expand his restaurant empire… he wanted to add in two of life’s greatest pleasures… full cream ice cream and yeast raised donuts. The Counter at IK served up 32 flavors of house made ice cream to delight kids of all ages with flavors like C is For Cookie, Chocolate Charcoal Chunk and Birthday Cake. For those donut lovers out there, these doughy favorites made fresh every morning brought in new favorites like french toast and bacon maple amongst the classics like glazed and chocolate frosted with sprinkles. IK was quickly deemed a happy place and as luck would have it… it’s also open year round… YES!
The Lobbyists and The Seawife
Musicals were a huge highlight on Nantucket in 2017. From The Sound of Music & Mamma Mia bringing in the crowds with Theatre Workshop of Nantucket to a special Romeo & Juliet musical rendition with White Heron Theatre… but it was one very special musical that enraptured our eyes and ears and that was the “SEAWIFE” – a beautiful and haunting love story set on a whaling ship with an incredibly talented cast called THE LOBBYISTS from NYC. Listen to the soundtrack here and try not to get infatuated with Johnnycake Hill… seeing these guys perform at the Lobster Trap and going to the musical three times at White Heron Theatre made for one stellar musical summer in our blACKbook.
Nantucket as photographed by Gray Malin
We all have to agree that the Grey Lady herself is ultimately the fairest of them all… And when photographed by the amazing GRAY MALIN this July, our Happy Place was seen from a birds eye view and we were graced with his gorgeous aerial shots from Madaket to Sconset and bACK. See his whole Nantucket collection HERE and check out the blACKbook Nantucket guide on the Gray Malin Travel blog HERE!
Life Of The Party
DJ Rosé at our Rosé All Night Party at the BOX
We really kicked off Wine Festival Weekend with a serious Trio of DJs with those ACK favorites LAYZBOY and BRAUN DAPPER meeting up with the one and only DJ Rosé for the first ever blush sponsored Rosé All Night party put on by blACKbook and Whispering Angel at the Chicken Box. From the Rosé All Night tanks that sold out before last call to the step and repeats to the magnums of rosé to all the pink decor, this was the BOX like you’ve never seen it. BONUS: we hear it may just be an annual blACKbook event….
Yes, you spotted them in June, and for the first time in a long time, Nantucket got tons of glimpses of these marine favorites from the South Shore. You didn’t have to take a seaside excursion into the blue for this sighting… these whales were popping up everywhere from Surfside to Nobadeer and became the surprise hit visitor of the 2017 season.
If I had a dollar for every instagram direct message I received looking for Revivalists tickets this past August, I would be a scalpers favorite! The Revivalists have been a Nantucket crowd favorite since gracing us with their cool NOLA musical vibes in 2013, and in 2017 they brought the heat and some serious sold out crowds for their August 16th and 17th shows. Word on Daves Street is that these guys just may be slated to come bACK in 2018 so if the Box announces that the tickets are on sale, you better be ready for the link with your CC in hand… they sold out in less than two hours last year! (And how ’bout the extraordinary David Shaw rockin the microphone at Southwest this Christmas with Run Run Rudolph! By far one of my favorite caroling moments of 2017. See It Here )
Oh yes, the award for most unpredictable this season has to go out to Mother Nature and her interesting choice in weather patterns. Whether it was the JUNEuary we received, the fall feels we had throughout July, the wet and wild August or the Hurricane of September, it was clear to us that we had been too spoiled in 2016 with all that summer of sunshine and 2017 brought a bit of temperament to the Grey Lady. I gotta give a shout to October which turned out to be the new September and much love to the weather Gods for forecasting such a perfect Daffy and Stroll weekend… and for that … we still gotta thank you.

Most Popular (Online)
Loved him or hated him (and we read from one local Media Outlet that he was viewed as more off-putting than amusing) but the funniest Bro out there had to be given to everyone’s favorite parody account ChadTucket. (which, BTW just launched in May and rose to an impressive 26,200 insta followers by the end of the year!) While we are always wondering…. who is CHADtucket?! as seen on blACKbook during Figawi… we all know that Chad can be a bit of everyone… so much so that CHAD has become a serious insta household name. You can even shop the Chadtucket shirts here!
