My Vermont Happy Place is a special little spot called STOWE. I love the authenticity of this gem of a resort town in the Green Mountain State… and over the past few years, I’ve been spending a fair amount of time up in the area from last years Stowecation to the #SoStowe Girls Getaway... and now this year, I brought MANtucket, our videographer Nick and their respective girlfriends up to VT to escape the quiet of ACK and get into the snowbird state of mind! In typical blACKbook fashion… we’ve got what you need to know from what’s hot + fresh to what’s classically cool here in STOWE.
Stay and play in Stowe like blACKbook does! We decided to really go all out this trip with our very own home… and this stunning three bedroom Airbnb called Our Side Of The Mountain is unlike any other place we have ever stayed! Located just a 20 minute drive to Stowe Mountain, this gorgeous cabin comes with radiated heated floors, beautiful and comfortable living spaces, a spacious kitchen, and three bedrooms in the main cabin to sleep up to six people, with a second cabin on site that can sleep four more!
The views alone are enough to make you never want to leave… And this second floor bedroom gave off incredible natural light!
…the stellar hot tub is the icing on this Stowe cake! We couldn’t get enough of hanging here both day and night!
If you’re looking for the ideal place to spend some QT with friends and/or family… Our Airbnb is the perfect place to savor some downtime and rest amongst the Green Mountains. Get your groceries, plan to cook in, bring up some good books, plan to enjoy some screen time in their living room, and you’ll be all set to relax in this cabin! BTW… The heated floors literally are the best thing ever after a big day on the mountain. Final tip? Make sure to bring a four wheel drive vehicle and you’ll be all ready for some VT fun!
6 hot things to know in STOWE
1. PICNIC SOCIAL
MANTUCKET SAYS… “To smell what the Picnic Social is cooking, ask the camera man… he vehemently said it was the best meal he’s ever had. I’ve never seen a grown man consume more delicious, fluffy toast in my entire life. The trout toast sporting pickled mushrooms and dill aioli and the honey crisp apple toast with roasted grapes and a lemon aioli produced our first audible food groans of the trip. Don’t sleep on the brussel sprouts and the ham and cheese flipped the script on conventional ham and cheese sandwiches. This isn’t a typical “mom packed your middle school lunch too late” ham sandy. Cabot sharp cheddar, maple glazed ham and a fried egg make this the apex ham and cheese masterpiece.”
2. STOWE BOWL
MANTUCKET SAYS… “Nothing like hitting a strike… or a spare… or I guess just getting a solid 6. The blACKbook crew, especially Holly “gutter ball” Finigan weren’t setting any records at Stowe Bowl, but seeing the old school 90’s hip hop videos on the big screen and the contemporary scoring system made me yearn for a bowling alley on Nantucket.”
3. PK COFFEE
MISS blACKbook SAYS… “If you’re looking for a quality cup of caffeine and a cool space to hang and relax in … well PK Coffee is it. It has that Handlebar Cafe feel with a community space disguised as a coffee shop. There coffee culture is spot on and they make a mean latte…. and for those in a tea mood, I love how they really take time to perfect the steeped tea with the correct fixings. BONUS: this is also a sneaky food spot… and I had one bomb ass grilled cheese there that I will be dreaming about for months. If you’re like me and always need to find some coffee culture wherever you may be… well PK Coffee is just it.”
4. MUD CITY ADVENTURES
MISS blACKbook SAYS… “When you’re looking for an experience, but kinda want the experience to come to YOU… well then look no further than Mud City Adventures. Our “off slope” guide Kevin came to our Airbnb and lead us not only on an active snowshoe around the mountains, but also got all five of us on snow bikes for the first time. That was a rush… and so often you get all geared up to go on activities… that sometimes it’s best when all that fun can come straight can to you… Good thing for Mud City Adventures in Stowe!
5. KIT LENDER
MISS blACKbook SAYS… “When I’m packing up for a big winter adventure… the last thing I want to do is fly with a suitcase the size of my Jeep Grand Cherokee… so when I found out about Kit Lender (like a Rent The Runway for haute ski apparel) I was sold before I even rented! This super savvy company makes it so if you’re like us, and not crushing pow on a weekend basis, you can still dress the part (and do it both stylish and warm!) with their boxed sets… so you get more mountain and less hassle and looking pretty sweet while doing it.”
6. TANGERINE & OLIVE
MISS blACKbook SAYS… “I always love finding a fresh and super curated boutique that thrives around supporting small business… and Kimberly DiNoFrio’s new Stowe boutique Tangerine & Olive does just that. This womens accessories store is stacked with handcrafted gems signed by independent artists, designers and makers from across the USA . I love how she has focused on women makers and helping them grow by telling their stories in a cool way through her store. As a huge fan of sustainable and good for you beauty products… I am currently obsessed over the Chicory Farm Healing Salve in Orange Cinnamon which is perfect for keeping skin hydrated and soft in these winter months (and that orange scent is super uplifting!) and be sure to get a jar of The Orange Owl Mint Soother body butter which literally feels and goes on like frosting and is the perfect post hot shower skin moisturizer! BONUS: The boutique is located in the same building as Salon Salon which gives amazing spa manicures and pedicures so check them out while you’re in there!
5 favorites that are always a STOWE must:
1. DOC PONDS
MANtucket SAYS: “Boozy milkshakes. I didn’t think it was possible to commit a more severe food sin but a boozy milkshake may be my vice; it makes me weak in the knees. Add a ridiculous beer selection with every IPA north of the Mississippi and it’s hard to not be content at Doc Ponds. Vermont is known for the cheese and the VT cheddar fritters live up to the reputation. I ate these gooey balls of heaven with pickled jalapeños and crema twice in one day.”
2. WELL HEELED
MISS blACKbook SAYS… “The ladies of Well Heeled have style down to a C… and by C I mean CHIC, CASUAL, and CURATED. This amazing womens clothing and shoe store is filled with goodies and the shopping experience is one of a kind. Be sure to check out their insanely amazing boot collection (one of the best that I have EVER seen in any store) and for women who want to look effortlessly cool while in Stowe, you can find gorgeous looks to take you from the slopes to the apres at the Big Night Out. Follow them on instagram at @wellheeledstowe and for those off island, shop their styles online by clicking below… BONUS: use code ACK25 at checkout to receive 25% off your full purchase!”
4. SUSHI YOSHI
MANTUCKET SAYS: “Nothing gets me fired up like some Hibachi. I literally turn the clock back 15 years when they make the onion train puff smoke. Oldest trick in the book, but it gets me every time. Sushi Yoshi brought the hot knife flips and watching strangers trying to catch an air-born shrimp never gets stale. Entertainment and dinner, thank you very much.”
5. PROHIBITON PIG
MANtucket says... If eating excessive macaroni and cheese and brisket was a crime I’d be serving 25 to life. I love this rustic setting of Prohibition Pig almost as much as I loved the creamy macaroni. We added a pulled pork topping and I was making up excuses to dip into the fridge late night for the remainder of the trip. The brisket is perfectly smoked and this BBQ spot may have been the highlight of the trip.
The Perfect #StoweMT Day as told by our Monelle Vermont Stowe Bunnies
One of my favorite VT Stowe bunnies, Elissa of @MonelleVermont has been a weekend warrior of this resort town for loads of winters. (NOTE: We first met on Nantucket in 2012 when she was opening the Monelle on ACK!) And as a Stowe ski babe, she gave blACKbook her top 3 Stowe Mountain Tips:
1. Poms , Parkas & Parlor Skis are a must while on the slopes at Stowe Mountain. and
2. Hit Mansfield for your morning runs and hop to Sunny Spruce for your afternoon laps and libations!
3. Après the Monelle Way with sushi and turbosa’s at the Matterhorn for the perfect ending to another epic Stowe Day!
