There’s something so iconic about Straight Wharf Bar Grill… With veteran bartenders, knowledgable servers, and friendly staff throughout, the Bar Grill gives off a welcoming vibe and true hospitality to all that walk up the bricks. This restaurant feels like you’re dining at your favorite friends home with good tunes,  great drinks and quality cuisine … plus you can’t beat that harbor breeze that flows throughout! Here at blACKbook, we have the five things to note about this Nantucket dining favorite.

Straight Wharf is the perfect place to go to after the brewery or the beach as it has a “come as you are” vibe. It’s walk-in’s only so if you forgot to make a rezzy, no worries!  SWR is always first come, first serve. The Bar Grill offers three distinct areas to dine so you can choose between the lively bar, the intimate inside tables or the beautiful patio.

New to 2017… the full dining room wine by the glass list is also now offered in the bar and wherever you’re dining,  you can always have access to their expansive and impressive wine list, crafted by the likes of Ieva Aldins, Scott Fraley, Joe Snowney and Chris Sleeper. One of our personal highlights is that they have three different Donelan Family Wines on the Menu… and that Two Brothers Pinot Noir pairs perfectly with our favorite cheese board on the island!

Synonymous with Straight Wharf are the insta worthy and extra delicious SWR taquitos.. These mini bite sized tacos come in two selections nightly so you can choose between a fluke ceviche or veggie! BONUS: they’re gluten free and only two bucks each so you can really go down to taquito town with these guys!

These three S’s will make you swoon … and the entree section on the bar grill menu has something for every diner! So if you’re looking for a protein punch, check out the Charred Skirt Steak which is featured alongside local seasonal vegetables and comes sliced for you. For those pescetarians out there… the Straight Wharf Salmon come froms Loch Duart, a world renowned supplier out of Scotland and is the finest cut of fish that you’ll find. Finally, if you’re vegetarian or just in the mood for a quality housemade pasta, check out the Spaghetti, hand pressed by Eulette, who is a SWR lifer and has been making pasta and the bread for over 20 years!

Celebrating over 41 years on the island, Straight Wharf is a bar institution and one of the bigger nightlife scenes on ACK. For those looking for a libation and some upbeat music, this place transitions from dining to dancing around 10:30PM every night… and for those in the mood to kick it old school, make sure their Hip Hop Sunday is on your weekend radar. PS… that Goombay Smash is obviously the SWR staple, but be sure to taste test some of the new brews on the list, like the WannaMango Harpoon Summer which is literally the ideal summer sipper.

Oh, and we love a good family story, and it’s so cool that Bar Grill server Katie Finnegan’s got a family Cider now on the drink list of SWR!  Katie says… “From an idea that began in the apple orchards of Harvard, Massachusetts, Prospect Ciderworks is now based out of Beantown has now made its way to the Grey Lady. My brother Mark Finnegan, has been producing this cider for three years, and I’m happy to say that you can now enjoy it with a meal at at the Bar Grill.” Check out the cans of PARADISE and SIDRO next time you’re at the Wharf!
