We have been spending some wonderful time in STOWE, VERMONT recently… and have to say… with its authentic village and genuine hospitality, it feels like a Nantucket of the mountains! How do we enjoy ourselves up here in the Green Mountain state? Check out how we do our #SoStowe vaca below!
STAY HERE: Field Guide
Stowe’s hottest new hotel comes with some serious perks… lets start out with the location, which, on Mountain Road, makes it easy to walk to town and enjoy some of the best dining out there.
Speaking of dining, you get your very own iPad with your stay, complete with bookmarks of all the Field Guide favorites for sipping and shopping around Stowe! We stayed twice. (Yes, it’s that good, that we had to come back!)
Try room 301 if you’re looking for a suite with a soaking tub that comes with an incredible view and a fireplace that heats up the room in just moments! If you’re looking for a comfy king delux, check out room 208 located in the heart of the hotel…and lets just say you’re going to want to instagram the entire hotel’s decor! #OnALark
DINE HERE: Hen of the Wood
Rustic Glam meets Innovative Cuisine in this Waterbury, Vermont dining favorite. Just a quick 15 minute drive from downtown Stowe, this highly recommended dinner spot comes with a VT based menu, and don’t forget to check out their cheese selection. (About ten local chesese that come looking as beautiful as they taste!) Reservations highly suggested and be sure to come with a hearty appetite… we loved the swordfish and chicken entrees and make sure to get those brussels sprouts with the apricot + shallots! DIVINE.
DINE HERE TOO: Plate
This downtown Stowe eatery gives off cool vibes and a fantastic menu of plates you’ll want to share (and an appealing menu that just makes you want to order one of everything!) Check out their fun cocktails and great wine list (Banshee Pinot Noir by the glass?! Yes, Please!) If you’re solo, this is a great bar to perch up at and soak in the scene. Plate is run by an awesome couple and filled with knowledgable and friendly staff. A must in our blACKbook.
SIP HERE: Cork Wine Bar & Market
This is the type of place that you’ll walk into and think “Man, I wish they had this in my town!“ Cork Wine Bar (which has a sister store in Waterbury) just opened this fall and is a total Stowe gem. Small plates, cheeses and charcuterie can be found as well as a few yummy desserts. And what pairs better with a nice glass of red than the Laughing Moon Chocolates?! Ideal as a before or after dinner spot. Love the chic fireplace and lounge area, as well as the festive holiday lighting and decor. And if you’re looking for some good wines, check out their market, located in the front of the store.
BEERS & BURGERS HERE: Doc Pond
The sister restaurant of Hen of the Wood, this new Stowe hotspot boasts an impressive beer list (clearly Headytopper had to be my choice) as well as a menu filled with light bites and creative burgers. Great for families, fun for the bar scene, an awesome price point, and always jamming, so get there early!
DESSERT HERE: Harrison’s
This Stowe favorite is just as cozy as it is classic. Head downstairs and you’ll immediately be warmed by the table and booth style ambiance as well as the the eight seater bar, perfect for cocktails, dinner and dessert. Make sure the infamous Harrison’s raspberry pie is on your Stowe Short List. A little slice of sweet heaven.
COFFEE HERE: Black Cap Coffee
I’m always into finding some cool coffee culture on my travels. So Black Cap Coffee not only makes a mean latte, but half the store is filled with inspiring cards, journals and unique holiday gifts that makes this coffee shop much more than just a caffeine stop. Great space to camp out with your computer and soak in the Stowe vibes when you need to work remotely, or cute spot to sit and savor a cappuccino while catching up with your VT friends.
PIZZA HERE: Piecasso
Pizza and a beer? I’m always looking for that while I’m away. And Piecasso has a fantastic list of brews and pies that will satisfy every pizza lover. We sat at the bar and enjoyed the CARNIVORE with a Peroni as we watched the Pats on their TVs… perfect little Sunday afternoon in Stowe!
YOGA HERE: The Yoga Barn
With all that active skiing, snowboarding, and cross-country endurance, it’s important to take some time to breathe, stretch and repeat. So, blACKbook says check out The Yoga Barn, located off of Mountain Road, which has an extensive schedule of restorative, calming and vinyasa flow classes throughout the week. NOTE: in and out of season, this space is filled, so make sure to sign up before you head over.
SHOP HERE: Well Heeled
Tucked away just three miles out from the bustle of Stowe’s downtown Village, sits an antique farmhouse that has been renovated into Stowe’s premier boutique…and we absolutely loved our shopping (and sipping!) experience at this chic little shop! Step into Well Heeled, which is now festively decorated for the holidays with thick strands of garlands, holly boughs, and twinkling lights, and you’ll find an incredibly unique yet classic collection of both brand names and artisan finds. From fringe to fur, Well Heeled has a little something for everyone on your holiday shopping list (and it will be too hard to resist finding a little something for yourself too!)
TASTINGS HERE: Stowe Cider
When it’s too late for strong coffee and too early for strong cocktails…we go for a strong cider! Loved being able to check out the awesome tasting room at Stowe Cider…our favorite was the “High & Dry”, a perfect little sipper that was super dry, light and crisp – like the champagne of ciders! They do tastings on weekends, but you can stop by daily to get a taste of how the cider is made from Apple to Pint Glass!
