It’s the most …won-der-ful time… of the year! Yes, the month of September has islanders slowing down after a long summer and has visitors enjoying the best of what the island has to offer (swimming! great weather! less crowds! summer sales!) all while savoring fall on Nantucket. But make no mistake, the island is still abuzz with amazing things to do… so here with the SEPTEMBER HOT LIST, we got it all mapped out for you! Here are a nine things to note for this month.

HOT BAND: RIPE AT THE BOX

September 9th + 10th

As we told you bACK in June... Listen, if pACKy at The Chicken Box tells us we’re going to love a band, we wholeheartedly believe him. And ever since he got bACK to island he’s been raving about RIPE! “Ripe is a Funk/Pop band out of Boston, that was born as a result of our seven members’ uniting over one belief: with enough passion and honesty, music can still make the earth shake.” With words like that you can be sure we’re at this Tuesday and Wednesday show at the BOX!

Cover is just $10 and the show will start around 10PM…  A musical must in our blACKbook!

HOT FUNDRAISER: HOLIDAY FOR HEROES

September 10th

hh
Each September, HFH volunteers and supporters host the Holidays For Heroes American Dream Tribute & Gala. It’s a full-out Tribute to Heroes released from duty during the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, while also honoring the lives lost and still affected by the four planes hijacked and World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks on September 11, 2001. The injures our Heroes sustained in the line of duty have changed their lives forever. During this annual Tribute, we each take full responsibility for OUR duty; assuring our Heroes unwavering support during their transition to wellness and ensuring their families’ futures, just as each Hero fulfilled his/her duty to ensure a future for us all. Three reasons you gotta go… First… What better way to commemorate the weekend of September 11 with some true heroes, learn about their amazing experiences on our awesome island all while paying it forward so that others can have this experience? And second… The band MUSICORP is made up of wounded veterans and was started at Walter Reed as a form of therapy… and they are amazing! And third, in addition to the great company and music, there will be delicious food by E.J. Harvey of the Seagrille and a fabulous live and silent auction! Tickets are $150 and you can get yours below.

HOT THINK TANK: NANTUCKET PROJECT

September 22nd ~ September 25th

tnp-2

tnp
The islands annual THINK TANK returns in late September for the 6th annual Nantucket Project. This year, the theme around the project is WALLS… they say… “WALLS WITHIN US. BETWEEN US. AROUND US. Walls have many dimensions. There are physical walls and mental walls, social walls and spiritual walls. Walls have become part of our national conversation – in large part due to Donald Trump. To some, walls exude power. To others, they are divisive. And so at the 2016 Nantucket Project, we will consider the walls within us, the walls between us, and the walls around us.” For those islanders looking for a chance to attend one of the eight sessions, click below to apply!
