PUPS on ACK

Part 2:

Where to crash with your critter!

Whether you make it to the island by boat or plane, you’re going to need a place to stay that will provide some well-deserved R&R for you and your four-legged friend. Pet-friendly lodging can often be limited, but don’t you worry: blACKbook has a variety of quality accommodations that will treat you both like royalty.

The Woof Cottages

RPAU799L
Owned and operated by Nantucket Island Resorts, the cottages were created in response to the overwhelming number of guesting requesting to bring their pets to Nantucket with them. As such, they have been wildly popular with pet lovers of all kinds and are open from mid-April to the end of October. The cottages are situated on prime harbor real estate and you conveniently won’t need a car as you’re only steps away from the water, as well as fantastic dining and shopping.
Perhaps you need a lift to the beach? Jump on the seasonal “Beach Bus," which is always dog-friendly, for a ride to your favorite sandy retreat.

For a $75 fee per pet per stay, you and your best friend will receive unprecedented amenities at your cottage including a welcome bag full of toys and treats, food and water bowls, a cozy pet bed, and doggie turndown service in the evening (complete with a treat on their pillow!). The cottages are beautifully decorated with a casual coastal feel, and are complete with a full kitchen and air conditioning, among other amenities.

Another great offering at the Cottages is a directory of island veterinary and dog sitter/walking services. This is ideal for guests who may want to spend an evening out or a long afternoon shopping without leaving their pet alone for an extended amount of time. Rates for the Woof Cottages are dependent on the season, but you can get a steal starting at $175/night in the offseason and midweek, up to $700 on a weekend in the high season. For more details and booking information, visit The Cottages and Lofts.

HARBORVIEW PLACE

Also close to the harbor is the new and beautiful Harborview Place, featuring two pet-friendly cottages for their guests that have four-legged family members. Dog treats and food bowls are available at check-in and General Manager, Susan Lazarus, is happy to share the island’s best kept secrets for guests with pets. Your pup will be thrilled with the amount of green space to play fetch, and even more excited to ride a paddleboard out on the water with you! Accommodations here are a bit on the higher side, from $675 and up per night, but we promise it’s worth it!

AIRBNB

If you’re looking to experience something other than a hotel setting with your pooch, check out Airbnb for a variety of pet-friendly accommodations that owners are willing to rent out, often at a fraction of the hotel price. When doing a search, I would recommend including all listings, not just “pets allowed” posts, as many owners can be swayed with a very convincing cute picture of your pet, or a pet deposit and a promise to keep your creature on their best behavior!
