Our favorite mother/daughter wine duo of Nantucket Wine & Spirits knows a good glass of wine when they swirl it… and with the first day of summer here on island, we are ready to get into a warm weather sipping state of mind! So Alanna and Mary gave us each six bottles that should be on your summer shopping list… see below!

Alanna’s Summer Six pACK…

1.Serata Prosecco

ALANNA SAYS… I’ve been in a Prosecco rut, until this Spring when I came across Serata. It’s drier than the old La Marca stand by, but that’s why I like it. Change is good.

2. Farmer Willie’s (adult) Ginger Beer

I love the flavor of ginger and this 12oz can packs a punch. At 4.5% alcohol, it's like drinking a beer, without drinking a beer. And it comes in a can, which is perfect for the beach or boat!

3. Laballe Sables Fauves Rosé

Don’t be afraid that it’s not from Provence. If you were tasting it blind, you wouldn’t be able to tell a difference. This was one of the wines we showcased at Wine Fest, and more than a few people claimed it was their favorite (rosé) under the tent. I concur.

4. Daniel Cohn Cabernet Sauvignon

FullSizeRender_10
Are you familiar with the B.R. Cohn wines? Well, this is son Daniel and he’s doing something great. I found this at a tasting this Spring and proclaimed that it will be my new go-to Cabernet. This under $30 Cabernet is well worth every dollar. As Robert Parker said, this is a “delicious, supple and savory wine that defies the stratospheric Napa pricing game”. I couldn’t agree more.

 5. Tequila Ocho Plata

FullSizeRender_11
I’m trying to step up my tequila game this season and this one I keep going back to. It is clean and balanced and perfect for sipping.

6. Brea Chardonnay

FullSizeRender_14
This California Chardonnay I will be keeping cold and on-hand all summer long. I have loved Chris Brockaway’s wines (Broc Cellars) for some time, so you can imagine my excitement when this was presented to me recently and the winemaker happened to be none other than Brockaway! With flavors of honeydew melon and pear and bright acidity, this is one Cali Chard that is right up my alley.

Mary’s Six For Summer Sipping…

1. The 2010 Donatella Brunello di Montalcino

FullSizeRender_2
MARY SAYS… Being a lover of red wines, the 2010 Donatella Brunello di Montalcino is one of the very best wines we have in the store and a huge personal favorite of mine! It manages to be both bold and full bodied but very soft at the same time…..in my mind attributed to a woman’s touch! A 94 rating by Robert Parker…a 100 by Mary Walsh!

2. The 2013 Saint Eugenie Corbieres

The 2013 Saint Eugenie Corbieres, a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Carignan is a true value at $13.00, with its soft, silky and elegant finish. We poured this wine at the Nantucket Wine Festival to rave reviews!

3. Ken Wright Cellars 2013 Pinot Noir

Ken Wright Cellars 2013 Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley is a” just right” Pinot in my opinion…….The fruit is not overbearing, a light bodied wine with a solid finish……A Burgundy in Oregon clothing

4.  Chateau Maupague Rosé

The Chateau Maupague Rose from Provence, with its 70% Grenache blend is a complex and delicious choice for red wine drinkers like me…..This wine has more body than most Provence Rose……a perfect reminder of why we love summer so much!

5. Henricks Gin + Fever Tree Tonic

Although I drink only wine 99% of the time, when I am looking for a delicious tasting, refreshing and (in my mind) perfect summer cocktail, I go to a Henricks Gin with Fever Tree Tonic (very important), and a few slices of fresh lime on the rocks. This cocktail is so easy to drink…..and lots of fun!

6. 2011 Besoleil Blend

The 2011 Besoleil from the Betz Family Winery in Columbia Valley Washington is definitely one to try... made from a blend of Rhone varietals, it’s supple medium body with hints of red berries, rose petals and spice remains elegant in a vibrant way. A truly lovely wine!
